City head coach Michael Skubala praised his side’s control in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Plymouth Argyle at the LNER Stadium.

The Imps put in a strong display to lead 3-0 with 12 minutes remaining, before the visitors rallied in the closing stages with two late goals.

Skubala conceded that the team made the ending to the game more nervy than it needed to be, but praised City for the character they showed to get over the line and quality on display to put themselves into such a commanding position.

Skubala said: “For 70 minutes we were fantastic. We had complete control of the game and the lads executed the gameplan brilliantly.

“We knew how they were going to try and play and we knew how we could hurt them and the first goal was ‘on-script’ in that regard.

“We had complete control of the game and were deservedly ahead. We made it a little bit harder than it needed to be at the end, but we got over the line with the three points.”

The victory made it three wins from four games in all competitions, with the head coach pleased with how his side have started the campaign.

He added: “I’m pleased with how we’ve started. At Wimbledon, I thought we were just starting to get on top in the game, but the red card swung the momentum their way.

“We can’t dwell on the negative, though. We have a good, solid group of experienced players with a sprinkle of youngsters.

“We want to add a little bit of depth to what we have, but I’m really happy with the players we have in every position, especially when they go out and perform as they did in the first 70 minutes today.”
