Midfielder Tom Bayliss has called on the Imps to build on their strong start to the campaign after defeating Plymouth Argyle 3-2 at the LNER Stadium on Saturday.
City made it three wins from four in all competitions and two in a row on home soil to start the campaign, and Bayliss says the team are determined to continue building momentum.
He commented: “The head coach has spoken about wanting to make the LNER Stadium a really hard place to come for teams. To start with two wins from two against really good teams is the perfect way to start.
“It’s only the beginning though and we’re looking to make sure that we continue it into the next games.
“We feel like we should be on three wins from three in the league. I thought we were in control of the game at Wimbledon until the red card, but we can’t dwell on that.
“We’ve got aspirations of pushing up the table and to do that, you’ve got to build momentum, so it’s really important that we back today’s result up with another strong showing.”
Bayliss helped the Imps make the ideal start to proceedings against the Pilgrims, after he netted with just four minutes on the clock to put his side ahead.
The 26-year-old was keen to stress that the goal came as a result of City’s work on the training pitch in the build-up to the contest.
He added: “The goal is a result of the hard work that has gone in on the training ground. We’d identified areas where we thought we could hurt them and getting to second balls was one of them.
“It came to me and I just hit it hard and low and thankfully it went in off the post to give us a great start.
“At 3-0 we were really comfortable and limited them to virtually nothing. They pulled a couple of goals back, but we managed to rally and it’s pleasing to see us show another side to our game and see the result through.”
