City striker James Collins is targeting his 200th goal in the EFL after getting off the mark for the 2025/26 campaign in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Plymouth Argyle.
The striker netted a brace to help the Imps defeat the Pilgrims, which took him to 199 in the league throughout his career and is looking to reach the milestone in Tuesday’s trip to Northampton Town.
He said: “It’s always nice to get off the mark, I should have had a hat-trick but the ‘keeper made a really good save in the first half.
“I thrive on scoring goals so it’s in my nature to be a little bit frustrated when I’m not on the scoresheet, but we’ve been creating chances and that gave me the belief that it would come.
“Being one away from 200 league goals in my career is a big incentive for me.
“I’m determined to reach the landmark as soon as I can and I’ll be looking to get there on Tuesday.
“I’ve already surpassed 200 goals in all competitions and the aim for me is to get to 250 by the end of the season.”
Collins praised City for their character after bouncing back from a disappointing defeat at AFC Wimbledon with two wins in a week.
He added: “The lads have been grafting for each other week in week out and the fans have been fantastic for us.
“The noise on Saturday was excellent and there’s a really good feeling around the place.
“We were disappointed to lose at Wimbledon but we’ve bounced back really well with two wins. It shows that there’s good spirit within the group.”
