Jack Moylan described his match-winning moment as a dream come true after etching his name into Lincoln City folklore with his promotion-sealing goal at Reading on Easter Monday.
Moylan struck deep in added time to give City a 2-1 win at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, with the victory confirming their place in the Sky Bet Championship next season, the first time they’ll play at the level for 65 years.
Moylan said: “You dream of moments like that when you’re a kid, to share them with such an amazing group of people is really special.
“When they scored, there were a few nerves there but I trust my teammates so much. They have delivered for us all season when it has mattered and they did it again.
“I wouldn’t say I knew I would score, I was confident and I knew it was a moment I couldn’t let pass me by.
“You train your whole life for an opportunity like that and I had to take the chance when it came.
“To be in a dressing room with a group of people that you know what do anything for you is priceless."
The Irishman had to wait for his opportunity after suffering an injury setback in the early stages of the campaign, but has since returned to the side to score nine times and assist a further four.
He added: “Experiencing the tough times makes you appreciate the good ones even more and we’re going to enjoy this moment.
“It is the best day of my life, I just can’t believe it. I had a tough start to the season with my injury, but I had to stay level-headed. You can’t get too high or too low.
“With the group of people around me, I knew that days like this were coming, you just have to stay positive and keep that belief.
“We haven’t got here through luck, years and years of building has gone into this and I’m just grateful to have played my part in it.”
