City skipper Tendayi Darikwa believes the Imps can still make even more history after the class of 2025/26 won promotion to the Sky Bet Championship for the first time in almost 65 years on Easter Monday.
The Imps’ 2-1 win over Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium sealed a return to England’s second tier for the first time since the 1960/61 campaign and now that promotion has been secured, Darikwa says City’s focus will now be on their bid to win the Sky Bet League One title.
He said: “I’m sure the supporters will be just as proud as I am of this group, to finally get over the line and be able to celebrate with a packed out away end is special.
“As I’ve said, I’m so proud of everyone, the players, staff and supporters. We’ve made some special memories together.
“We’ve got a few more targets we want to hit and we feel there’s more history for us to make.
“We still want to go on and win the title, so we’ll enjoy the moment but then our focus will shift to that.”
Darikwa had already tasted promotion in his career after skippering Wigan Athletic to the League One title in 2021/22 and was delighted to make another special memory with the Imps.
He added: “I’m proud to lead the team out every time I wear the armband, but I just want to play my part.
“I’ll do whatever I can for the team, to be the first Lincoln City team to win promotion to the second tier for 65 years is a great sense of pride for myself and to lead this group makes it even more memorable.
“I’ve experienced promotions before, but this one feels different. To play my part in this club’s special rise is incredible.”
