City continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly in Portugal against Sky Bet League Two side Bromley on Wednesday 16 July (10am KO).
The Imps are spending the third week of July out in the Algarve for a warm weather training camp which includes a friendly at the Estadio Da Nora against the Ravens. Michael Skubala's side have already played three behind-closed-doors friendlies, travelling to Hull City and Leicester City U21 before a fixture at the Elite Performance Centre against Huddersfield Town.
James Collins and Jovon Makama began pre-season with goals against Hull City before the former scored the winner against the young Foxes at Seagrave. Collins was also on the scoresheet against the Terriers along with Freddie Draper and Reeco Hackett.
Michael Skubala’s thoughts:
“The camp has been really beneficial for us, it has been great to get the lads together as a team in this environment and challenge them in the heat.
“Their attitude and application throughout has been excellent and they’ve really taken everything on board.
“Wednesday’s game will be a great test, against a good Bromley side. They’ll provide us with a different challenge to what we’ve faced in pre-season so far and it will give us the opportunity to get some more minutes into their legs.
“This is an incredibly important part of our pre-season programme and I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits of all the hard work when we head into the new campaign.”
A look at the opposition:
Bromley head into their second season in Sky Bet League Two following a dramatic 2023/24 National League play-off final which saw them defeat Solihull Moors on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Wembley.
The Ravens acclimatised well in their maiden fourth tier campaign, finishing just four points outside of the play-off places in 11th. Striker Michael Cheek played a huge role in the London side's success, finding the net 25 times in all competitions, a feat which saw him land the Sky Bet League Two golden boot.
Andy Woodman has been in charge at Hayes Lane since March 2021, with the club seeing a great rise since his appointment with promotion and lifting the FA Trophy in 2022.
Woodman’s side have been in Portugal for a week already, losing 2-1 to Rotherham United on Friday following a friendly back in England against a Tottenham Hotspur XI, which saw Marcus Dinanga score four in a 5-2 victory.
