Rob Street believes City have again shown they can compete with anyone in the Championship after another encouraging performance in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Millwall.

The forward scored his first league goal of the season as the Imps established a two-goal advantage at The Den, but the hosts fought back to earn a share of the points.

Street admitted there was disappointment in the dressing room after City were unable to secure victory, but believes there are plenty of positives to take from the performance.

He said: “We were really good in the first half. We put them under a lot of pressure and maybe could have had a couple more.

“We started the second half really well as well. We had chances to kill the game off, but we didn’t do that and they punished us.

“We were always confident of holding on because of the brilliant defenders we have, but you come to a place like this and they’re going to have a spell of real pressure."

Street was pleased to open his league account for the campaign and also reserved praise for fellow goalscorer Andrei Coubis, who marked his first goal in English football with an enthusiastic celebration.

He added: “You could see it when he scored. He just kept running! He was in our box at one point!

“He’s been incredible since he’s come in. He comes in every day, works really hard and I’m delighted for him.”

City’s squad depth will be tested further following another red card at The Den, but Street is confident the players available can rise to the challenge.

He continued: “We’ve got a brilliant squad. Everyone’s going to be used this season for a reason and we’ve made that evident already with the amount of changes every single game.

“We’re going to need everyone. It’s another chance for someone to step up and hopefully someone will come in and do really well.

“Every week’s a big game, isn’t it? There are massive clubs at this level and really tough opposition every week.

“But we back ourselves to go and give anyone a game, so hopefully we can do that next week.”
