Head coach Michael Skubala was pleased to see his rotated City side take their opportunities in Tuesday evening’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United U21s.
Second half goals from stand-in skipper Tom Hamer, Erik Ring and Reeco Hackett saw the Imps take a big step towards qualification for the knockout stages of the Vertu Trophy.
Skubala said: “Games like this are always tough to prepare for because you don’t know what you’re going to get.
“I thought they were a good team and played some really good stuff, especially in the first half.
“In the end, I think we had too much for them. It was really pleasing to see some lads out there that we haven’t had chance to see too much of and there were some encouraging performances.
“I think we could have scored more, we had a lot of opportunities, it felt like the second half was played more in their half.”
Skubala handed a debut to deadline day signing Dexter Lembikisa and he was full or praise for the Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee’s display.
He added: “Since he’s been with us he’s been brilliant. He is a great character and trains really well every day.
“It was really good to see him in action today, he’s had to bide his time a little but, which isn’t easy, but I thought he came in today and was magnificent.
“I said to the lads at the start of the game, while it is important for them to impress, it is also important for us to win as a club.
“It was important for them too look like ‘our’ team as well and I thought we did that.”
