City debutant Dexter Lembikisa was pleased to get his first minutes in red and white as the Imps secured another three points in their Vertu Trophy group.

The right sided defender joined the Imps on deadline day from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan and started for the first time on Tuesday night against Manchester United U21 following his return from international duty with Jamaica.

Lembikisa had an impressive debut at the LNER Stadium, winning Man of the Match and setting up Erik Ring’s goal with some great footwork which doubled City’s advantage.

He said: "Going into the game I wanted to show what I can do: I enjoyed doing that both defending and creating going forward.

“I like to take on players and go forward with the ball. I saw the gap between the players, went through, saw Erik at the back post and just dinked it to him.”

Lembikisa is settling into life in Lincolnshire and praised the start the team has made to the 2025/26 campaign and the quality of players around the squad which was evident as Michael Skubala made 11 changes to the side for Tuesday night’s victory.

He added: “The team is doing really well, winning games so I’ve had to patient and work hard. That’s football you’ve just got to keep working and be ready when you’re called.

“The mood is high, the team is doing well, winning and dominating games. It’s looking good and that reflects the quality of the team we have as well as the togetherness and the heart which the team has to keep winning games and pushing for more.”

City are next in action on Saturday 4 October, when they host Exeter City at the LNER Stadium. Get your tickets now!
