Head coach Michael Skubala was proud of his side’s efforts after the 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town on Saturday.
City were deservedly one ahead with half an hour on the clock through Sonny Bradley’s first goal for the Imps, but were dealt a blow when the same player was shown a straight red card.
The Imps looked set to take all three points despite playing the entire second half a man down, but the Stags claimed a share of the spoils with eight minutes remaining when Nathan Moriah-Welsh equalised.
While disappointed his side couldn’t hold on, he heaped praise on his players for how they battled throughout the contest.
He said: “We started brilliantly and were on top of the game. We got to our goal and it was one way traffic from there.
“The sending off obviously changed the game, but I thought we were magnificent with 10 men. I appreciated the efforts of the entire group and that includes the lads coming off the bench.
“Everyone put a shift in out there and even after going down to 10 men we’re coming off disappointed that we haven’t won the game, which is testament to how we played.”
Skubala added: “It shows what a good group we have here. The point keeps us unbeaten at home, which is important.
“The fans could see how much the players were giving for the shirt and they backed us all the way.
“On another day, the game could have gone our way, but I’m proud of how we battled.”
