City midfielder Conor McGrandles believes City have a positive platform to build from after taking 11 points from their first six Sky Bet League One games.

The Imps were denied a fourth victory of the season late on against Mansfield Town after playing for over an hour with 10 men following a red card for Sonny Bradley, but McGrandles believes City are on the right track.

He said: “It has been a positive start to the season for us. We still think we’ve left a few points out on the pitch with how some of the games have played out.

“We’ve performed well in all of the games, we can definitely take it as a good platform to build from.

“Today was a really good atmosphere and you can tell how behind us the fans were, they really helped us today.”

City were the better side prior to the red card and were deservedly ahead through Bradley’s first goal in Imps colours.

Whilst conceding it was always going to be a tough ask playing for so long a man light, McGrandles stressed that he felt the team deserved more from the game.

He added: “We started the game really well and were executing the game plan really well up until the red card.

“When you go down to 10 men it is always going to be a tough ask, especially against a good team.

“We were disappointed to concede and that we couldn’t see the game out because we worked so hard, but we can’t complain too much with a point.

“It was backs to the wall for us, we obviously had a bit of experience playing with a man left after the game against AFC Wimbledon and dealt with it a lot better.”
