Michael Skubala praised the determination and mentality of his players after they battled back for a 2-2 draw at Stevenage FC to extend their unbeaten run to 26 matches.
The Imps were pushed all the way in a difficult contest, but once again found a response when it mattered most, showing the resilience that has defined their season against a Stevenage team fighting for a play-off place.
He said: “It was a tough game, but it is a reminder it’s really hard to win matches at this level. It’s really hard to come here and win.
“I thought they started the game better and they have huge things to play for in trying to get into play-offs. So every ball mattered.”
“They defend very resolutely here. They’re very well coached. They’re hard to play against,” he added.
“They don’t give many chances at all. In the end it just shows the character of the group again where we just keep pushing the game to try and get that point - it felt like a win.”
Skubala highlighted the contribution of his substitutes and the togetherness running throughout the squad.
He said: “I think, again, it just showed you everybody is together. The subs worked so hard when they come on. But that’s what it takes to be the team we are.”
Even after gifting the home side opportunities and finding themselves under pressure, the Lincoln boss never doubted the resolve of his players.
The point leaves City needing one more point to secure the League One title and cap a remarkable campaign. Skubala said his players are determined to finish the job for everyone connected with the club.
He added: “I know they’ve got it in them - they’re an unbelievable group to work with.
“They care so much about everything they do. They’ve just got a mentality that’s so connected for each other.
“We know now we need another point to win the title. we’ve put ourselves in an amazing position to do that, but it’s not going to be easy again.
“The lads really want to do that. They want to do it for the club. and supporters."
