City head coach Michael Skubala was pleased to see the Imps end their 2025/26 pre-season preparations on a high, following an excellent 4-2 win over Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Two goals inside the opening three minutes were added to by second half strikes from summer signing Ryley Towler and Jack Moylan to help the Imps to a convincing win against their second tier opponents.
Skubala said: “It was a great way to end pre-season. I’ve said before that the performance is more important than the result and we certainly got that.
“Hopefully that will give us confidence going into the first game of the season next week and beyond.
“It was a good workout for us and it is always nice to finish pre-season on a high.”
The Imps were a real threat from wide positions throughout the contest and Skubala was encouraged to see City continue to build on their strong qualities from the previous campaign.
He added: “We have to keep our good qualities from last season and the delivery today was excellent and caused them a lot of problems.
“It was pleasing to see some of the things we’ve been working on in pre-season come off for us.
“West Brom are a strong team and are tough to play against, but I thought we looked really good.
“We made sure we played in the right moments and the balance of the team was excellent. It was a great performance.”
