Michael Skubala praised the incredible character of his side after they found the determination and resolve to secure all three points against Stockport County.

Goals from Jack Moylan, Tendayi Darikwa and Alfie Lloyd sealed the 3-1 victory which came on the back of a demanding week which had also seen wins at Cardiff and Exeter.

He said: “The character of these players is unbelievable, they have put in so much into those two games and showed what they are about again.

“It was a tough game against a good opposition, who are physical and strong. We had to suffer a bit at times but for all the territory they had we didn’t allow them to create many chances, and we created some big ones of our own.

“We weren’t able to be as consistent as we usually are, but in spells we did it really well.”

There was a big moment in the game where goalkeeper George Wickens made an impressive save to keep the Imps ahead, and Skubala felt the defence deserved plenty of praise.

He said: “I thought George Wickens in goal and the two centre backs were immense, George pulled off a great save in the first half which was really important to us.

“Everyone works so hard, the entire team put a hard shift in which they needed to do.”

Skubala also felt his side’s determination shone through to respond to Jack Diamond’s equaliser for the visitors by going again and scoring twice themselves

He added: “We knew when their goal went in that we had the tools to go on and threaten again, and what a moment it was when Tendayi scored to put us ahead.

“Football’s all about moments and I thought we just kept going, trying to force the game whenever we had the opportunity. And, in the end, the crowd were magnificent in pushing us over the line.”
