City skipper Tendayi Darikwa hailed the character of the team after they sealed a sixth win in a row with a 3-1 victory over Stockport County.

Jack Moylan’s first half opener had been cancelled out by former Imp Jack Diamond and it looked as if City were going to have to settle for a share of the spoils before the skipper popped up with his fourth of the season with just two minutes remaining and Alfie Lloyd sealed the three points in time added on.

Whilst admitting he felt City weren’t at their best against the Hatters, the skipper was thrilled with the way the team dug deep to get the result.

He said: “Every game has it’s own challenges, we knew going into it that Stockport are a good team and in the play-offs for a reason.

“I don’t think we played our best football, but we showed great character to dig deep and get the result.

“We’re obviously delighted with the three points, but we now need to move on and go again on Tuesday.”

The skipper was pleased to add to his tally for the season, but stressed the importance of the goal contributing to the three points.

He added: “It’s my goal, I don’t get many so I have to claim it! Obviously it is nice to get a goal, but the most important thing is the team.

“I’m really pleased to get on the scoresheet and to help the team get a win makes it even more rewarding.”
