New skipper Tendayi Darikwa is looking forward to leading the Imps out on Saturday at the LNER Stadium.
Following a successful debut campaign in red and white which saw him named Player of the Year, the 33-year-old was appointed captain by head coach Michael Skubala and he’s looking forward to getting underway against Reading on home soil.
Darikwa said: “It’s going to be special, when I was named skipper I said how much of an honour it was for me to captain the football club, hopefully I can do my best and the team can be successful.
“We’ve obviously worked hard since we’ve come back to pre-season, finally we’re looking to get off to a good start on Saturday."

City start their league campaign at home for the first time since 2022 and the skipper is relishing the chance to earn three points in front of the home support.
He added: “It’s always nice to play at home in front of our fans, they’ll back us as they have since I’ve been at the club. Hopefully we can have a good day together on Saturday.”
Head coach Michael Skubala is also excited about the Imps' return to league action on Saturday and starting the campaign in front of a big crowd.
He said: “I’m excited, everyone’s raring to go. There’s nothing like the real stuff with three points on it. I’m looking forward to getting back to LNER Stadium with a full crowd and getting at it.
“It’s going to be a really competitive year and league, we have to do our stuff, be in every game and try to get three points. We’re confident going into Saturday that we can get something out of the game."
