Michael Skubala admitted he was “running out of words” to describe his history-making side - praising the relentless standards which drove his team to victory at Port Vale.
The 2-0 win at Vale Park extended his side's remarkable unbeaten run to 29 games, a new record for any team in this division and a perfect way to cap off an iconic title-winning campaign
He said: “You could argue there was nothing riding on this game, but they just do it again. They keep showing that ruthlessness and relentlessness. We keep pushing, we keep playing our way, and I thought there were some outstanding performances again.
“It’s hard to single anyone out because everyone was exceptional. The substitutes came on and affected the game again, and I’m just really proud of the group. To reach 29 now and break another record is incredible. We’ve broken so many this season. I’m not sure you can replicate a campaign like this - it’s iconic, it’s historical, it’s amazing.
“You could see how proud everyone was - the supporters, the staff, everyone connected to the club. It means a lot.”
Skubala felt his side’s fast starts in both halves were key, with moments of quality in the final third making the difference in the ninth and 49th minutes.
He said: “We started both halves really well, on the front foot - aggressive and quick out of the blocks.
"We got the first goal which is the way we want to play. They had a bit of a response and it became scrappy at times, which can happen when legs get tired.
“At half-time we reinforced a few things, then started the second half strongly again and scored another excellent goal. As the game opened up later on, the subs came in and supported the team well. We probably could have had another one or two, but overall there were strong spells where we really dominated.”
Another clean sheet was also a source of satisfaction, with goalkeeper George Wickens presented with the Golden Glove trophy after the match after finishing joint top of the clean sheet table.
Skubala added: “The clean sheet was important. We’ve got the best defensive record, and that’s a big part of why we’ve also been so strong going forward.
“George has been outstanding - I think he’s played every minute in the league. That’s an unbelievable achievement. His development from last season to this one has been exceptional, and that’s the same across the team. These players are still improving all the time.”
