Conor McGrandles was thrilled to help the team to victory with his first goal of the season, after he netted the opener against Blackpool at the LNER Stadium on Saturday.

McGrandles' first half header saw City edge a tight contest at the break, before further goals in the second half from Rob Street, Dom Jefferies and Ryan Oné added further gloss to the scoreline, with the Imps running out 4-0 winners to make it 17 games unbeaten in the league.

McGrandles said: “I was in the right place to capitalise on the rebound and I was pleased to see it go in because it came at a crucial time in the game.

“That’s why set-pieces for us are so important, when the game is tight we can get an advantage from how we’ve utilised them. I almost had a second as well and fair play to the keeper who made an excellent save, honestly the most important thing was getting the win.

“It was a really good performance against a strong team, I know they are towards the bottom of the table, but they have some very good players and came into it in a good run of form.

“We knew we would have to be on it to get something from the game and thanfully we were able to do that. It was a tough game throughout, they went a little more direct than they normally do to combat us, but we’ve shown this season that we can deal with both sides of the game well.

“I think we stood up and answered the questions they asked us and killed the game at the end with more goals. It was a good day for us.”

The Imps will be backed by around 3,000 fans when they head to South Wales for their next fixture against league leaders Cardiff City on Saturday 7 March.

McGrandles added: “Obviously it is an important game, but there are the same three points available as every match.

“We’ll go there full of confidence, knowing that no matter the result we’ll be moving straight on to the next one. We have to take it one game at a time and that is the next one.”
