Chris Cohen felt his Imps side got everything they needed out of Saturday's opening game of pre-season.
Tom Bayliss' early strike sealed a 1-0 win at Boston United, although the result was secondary to building up fitness and developing relationships within the squad.
Cohen said: "Most importantly we kept everyone fit and healthy, with lots of good bits and loads to work on and get better at. The application was really admirable from the lads throughout and we were really pleased. Everyone really joined in, and, and, and had a part to play in a decent performance.
"It was nice to be able to supplement the first team players with a few of the younger players and I thought they handled it well."
Saturday's performance capped a good first two weeks of pre-season training, with the players building towards August.
Cohen added: "We knew exactly how the lads would apply themselves. We've obviously had a long break, and we were desperate to get back in. I think the players were desperate to get back in, so it's been a perfect two weeks.
"We completely understand that it's only pre-season and the real stuff starts in a few weeks' time. We've got a really good, incredible support staff that set it up beautifully for us as coaches.
"It has been a really successful couple of weeks, and now we've got a week away in Spain to spend some time together and get to know the new people even more."
Ben House, Callum Elder, Freddie Draper, Josh Honohan and Ryley Towler were left out of Saturday's squad, but trained instead and will fly out with their team-mates on Sunday for the warm weather training camp.
Cohen added: "It's normal in pre-season that people pick stuff up, really small minor things that we need to make sure that they're right.
"We want them to be able to complete enough minutes throughout the course of pre-season, but that doesn't mean that they have to play every game."
