City defender Sonny Bradley was thrilled to see City go into Christmas on a high after helping the Imps record their fifth home league win in a row.
Bradley popped up with his fourth goal of the campaign to seal a 2-1 win over Cardiff City at the LNER Stadium.
He said: “We knew it was a big game against the best team in the division right now and it was a chance for us to show what we’re about.
“Teams know that when they come here they are in for a tough game. In the second half we came under a bit of pressure as you expect against a really good team. They scored a very good goal and sometimes you have to hold your hands up.
“We needed a reaction and we certainly got that. The head coach made changes and I have to give credit to the subs, because they really played their part in the win.
“The fans sensed that they really needed to play their part and the atmosphere they created put Cardiff under more pressure. We needed them and we’ll need them again.”
The defender was quick to heap praise on his team-mates after he rose highest to head home a Tom Bayliss delivery from a corner, describing the crosses into the area from set-piece situations as ‘gifts’.
He added: “I didn’t get as many goals as I wanted last season, but I was well aware of how good this club are at set-pieces when I joined.
“For me, that was a big attraction, when you’ve got the players we have putting great deliveries in they are absolute gifts.
“So huge credit goes to them, because it makes it really simple for me to just go up and win a header.”
