Lee Mitchell praised the attitude and character of his players after the Imps battled to a 1-1 draw at Northampton Town.
The Imps took a first-half lead through Lucy Farrow and, despite conceding an equaliser, managed to see out a hard-earned point on the road.
Mitchell said: “We’ll take the point. The girls are disappointed with the point but we had to soak up a lot of pressure in the second half particularly in the last 20 minutes.
“They were really pushing for it, especially when they scored, but you can’t under-estimate the work ethic and the character of the players again.
“Northampton had 48 hours extra rest and that was the difference - they had the legs and we didn’t. The girls were dead on their feet in the end because of the way we play and the schedule that we’ve had.”
City dominated much of the first-half but were forced to defend for much of the second after the efforts of Thursday night started to take their toll.
He added: “We only had the three subs today and we used them all up, so we had Brogan playing on one leg.
“We were down to ten players effectively so the players had to roll their sleeves up, dig in and to defend how they did, it just says everything about the team at the minute.
“We’re used to battling right to the end because we’ve had to do that the last three or four games, I couldn’t have asked anything more from the players.
“They defended for their lives when needed and we were under a lot of pressure, they fancied the win. I thought the character and attitude was phenomenal.”
