Lee Mitchell was thrilled with City’s 2024 opener as they defeated Leafield Athletic 2-1 at the Castle Vale Stadium.
Goals from Lucy Farrow and Ella Tuplin saw the Imps turn around a second-half deficit to claim a vital three points.
Mitchell said: “Both teams needed the three points, and that’s all that mattered really.
“Having seven weeks off and then to come back and get the victory, it was huge to be honest.
“The substitutions came on and they changed the game - they were all involved in the goals at some points, so that was fantastic to see.”
City’s head coach is hopeful that the victory will give them momentum heading into another important game against Leek Town on Sunday 14 January.
He added: “Leek are tricky, but we are at home so that’s always a positive for us.
“It’s everything to play for again next week - it’s just as big of a game against Leek as it was against Leafield.”
