Lee Mitchell was proud of his Imps side for entertaining a crowd of over 500 at the LNER Stadium as City beat Notts County 6-2 to kick off their FAWNL 23/24 campaign.
A relentless first half saw the Imps hold a four-goal advantage at half-time, before they saw the game out with a controlled second-half display.
Mitchell said: “We were talking to some of the fans that come week in and week out, and it’s phenomenal - that’s the sort of support that we need, and it does lift you.
“Playing here with that fanbase, we just hope to grow that, because they were certainly entertained. Some of the football we played was fantastic, and some of the goals were top notch.”
Mitchell believes that the performance derived from the hard work put in by the side during pre-season, with summer signings helping to revitalise the squad.
“When the players came in during the summer, we saw what training was like, and it’s just been lifted to a whole new level. When it’s like that it’s not a surprise that you get that sort of intensity in games.
“The squad, the depth of the squad, the togetherness of this group, it’s phenomenal. I was excited to get underway because we know what they’ve been training like, and for them to show that with the result is perfect.”
