Lee Mitchell hopes that his City Women side can offer up a spectacle against Notts County at the LNER Stadium on Sunday.
The Imps will begin their new season against the newly promoted Magpies, with fans invited to watch the Women’s World Cup final with the team before City take to the field themselves.
Mitchell said: “It’ll be a fantastic day for the country and the women’s game both nationally and locally.
“Watching the game with the players, and then hopefully playing a spectacle against Notts County - it’s going to be a great occasion.”
City’s head coach is keenly aware of the threat County pose however and knows his side will have to be on top form to start the season with a victory.
“They are an unknown at step four, and we will be their first encounter at this level, so we’ve tried to do our homework as best we can.
“We don’t under-estimate anyone in this league, and we will prepare for every match in exactly the same way. They’re step four for a reason, they won their league last season so we will take them seriously, give it our all and hopefully get the right result.”
