City got the season off to a strong start with a win over Notts County in front of a bumper crowd at the LNER Stadium.
The Imps got off to a fast start, with the opening attempt coming moments after kick off. Katie Williams almost broke the stalemate around 10 minutes in when she stole the ball at the edge of the box and took a shot which went just over.
The first goal came in the 19th minute when Maddi Green sent the ball into the box for Millie Quintance, who scored on her debut with a composed finish.
Poppy Irvine - returning to the Imps on a season-long loan from Birmingham City - made a strong save shortly after, resulting in Notts being awarded a corner, from which they scored through Skye Lakin-Wright.
It did not take long for the Imps to re-take the lead, though, through Toni McHamilton. Slick work between her and Leah Hardy sent her through one on one with Philipa Davies in the County goal.
A header from Ella Thompson-Moulding made it 3-1 in the 39th minute. A free-kick lead to her goal from a packed penalty area. Hardy set up Green for another in the 44th minute, sending the ball diagonally into the far corner of the net. Hardy scored her own on the brink of half time.
It took just moments for McHamilton to score in the second half after a defensive mistake gave her a clear shot over Davies’ head.
Irvine was put to work a bit more for a period of the second half but made a series of easy saves. It was not until the 77th minute that Notts scored their second.
Substitute Katie Platts made a quick run and slotted it just past Irvine with a truly composed finish. Irvine made a driving save a few minutes later to keep the score 6-2.
