Born in Italy to Romanian parents, Andrei Coubis is a commanding centre-back who joined the Imps from Romanian top-flight side FC Universitatea Cluj in the summer of 2026. Standing at 6ft 5in, he combines an imposing physical presence with composure in possession and arrives at City on a five-year contract.

Coubis spent more than a decade developing in the renowned AC Milan academy before continuing his career with Sampdoria and then Universitatea Cluj, where he established himself in Liga I. Comfortable bringing the ball out from the back and strong in defensive duels, he adds quality and competition to Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw’s defensive options ahead of City’s return to the Sky Bet Championship.

A Romania youth international, Coubis is regarded as a modern central defender whose blend of size, technical ability and game intelligence has seen him continue his development at senior level.
