Goalkeeper George Wickens completed a move to the Imps from Premier League side Fulham in the summer of 2024.
Capped at England U18s level, Wickens earned a four year deal with the Imps after building a reputation with Fulham at youth level as an exciting young goalkeeper.
Wickens came through the Academy ranks at Fulham, signing his first professional contract with the the Cottagers in 2018. During his time at the London based club, he enjoyed loan spells at Wealdstone and Ross County, making 13 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side in 2023/24.
Joining the Imps in July 2020, Wickens was straight into the action, making his debut in City’s opening Sky Bet League One fixture against Burton Albion and helping his side to a 3-2 victory on the road. He went on to make 39 appearances and keep 11 clean sheets across all competitions in his first season at League One level, having a strong end to the season after recovering from an injury.
Wickens continued as starting goalkeeper into the 2025/26 season, not missing single league game in the first six months of the campaign. He recorded his first assist as an Imp, with his long kick to Tom Bayliss leading to City’s second goal in a 3-1 victory against Barnsley at the LNER Stadium. Less than a week later he added another assist to his tally, playing a quick ball to Jack Moylan for our opener in a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road against Blackpool.
