City defender Ryley Towler says the Imps want to end a historic season on a high after securing the Sky Bet League One title last Tuesday.
The Imps have already sealed a place in the second tier of English football for the first time in 65 years and will be presented with the League One trophy after Saturday’s fixture with Wycombe Wanderers.
Michael Skubala’s side head into the match with the Chairboys 27 league games unbeaten and on a tally of 97 points and Towler insists that City still have targets they want to achieve before the curtain comes down on a memorable campaign.
He said: “It's been an unbelievable season and a joy to come in every day, especially these last couple of weeks.
“From the very start of the season the togetherness within the group has been outstanding, it’s hard to explain just how good it is, it has been a pleasure to be a part of.
“We knew what we wanted to achieve this season and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to do that.
“There are still targets for us to hit, we want to continue the unbeaten run and finish on as many points as we can. We know that won’t be easy, but we just need to focus on our own performance.”
For Towler, this season’s success with the Imps has been his second taste of glory, having also lifted the third tier title with Portsmouth back in 2024.
He added: “To win the league here is really special for me and for everyone else. I’ve spoken to a few players and some of them haven’t had a promotion before, so I feel really lucky to have achieved it with two teams and win the league on both occasions.
“It feels surreal and hasn’t quite sunk in yet, I’m sure it will in the next couple of weeks, but first we want to end the season on a high.”
