Sam Tillen believes his young squad deserved more for their efforts, after they edged out 2-1 by Chesterfield on Tuesday.
It was a bright start from the young Imps, but it was the visitors who took the 1-0 lead into the break, but City responded well in the second half to equalise before Chesterfield won it late against the run of play.
Tillen said: “I think it’s frustrating from a results perspective because the lads did very well to get themselves back into the game and they then ended up losing it in the 88th minute.
“Overall, we’re in a tricky period with the age of the group we’re playing with at the minute, I can't fault the effort of the lads but at times we needed to show a bit more quality."
Freddie Wilson was a key figure in the early part of the season for the Imps, with the wing-back winning Lincoln City’s All in Construction October Goal of the Month. He has been sidelined for a while through injury but made a 45-minute return against Chesterfield and Tillen spoke of his delight to have him back.
He said: “Freddie is a very technically proficient footballer and it’s great to have him back with the group.
“Obviously he’s been out for an extended period of time so it was nice for him to get 45 minutes and he came through it unscathed, despite him being a first year it adds that little bit of extra experience to the group.”
