Sam Tillen has been pleased with the first few days of pre-season after City U18 returned to training on Monday.
The young Imps reported back for the start of their preparations with pre-season testing at Riseholme College, and Tillen has been pleased with what he has seen from his team so far.
He said: “I’ve been very pleased with how they’ve come back. We had some running this morning and they looked really good.
“We had training in the afternoon and I was really pleased with the intensity they showed. We’ve got a few more running sessions and then Friday will be purely football before heading down to Bath.”
Tillen believes City U18’s pre-season schedule means they need to find a balance between fitness and work on the ball, with three fixtures to come next week in quick succession.
Tillen continued: “Initially we’ve got some running into their legs, but we also have to mix that in with work on the ball. We want to push them, and the schedule we have dictates we’ve got to get some football in so they can participate in half a game during the week.
“We’ve got to prepare their bodies for that, while also creating a foundation with fitness and seeing where they are from a physical standpoint.”
