Sam Tillen is aiming for a positive start for his side as they take on Port Vale U18 on Saturday.
The young Imps start their EFL Youth Alliance North campaign with a test against Port Vale which will be followed by a Youth Alliance Cup game at home to Salford City on Tuesday - Tillen is hoping his side can start their season well.
He said: “I’m looking forward to getting underway, we have worked diligently over pre-season and the players are looking forward to the beginning of the season
“We’re straight into the action with two games in quick succession starting against Port Vale before a cup match on Tuesday so the pre-season preparation we’ve done will be extremely important for us.
“Port Vale are a good side, they finished in the top ten of our division last season and it’ll be a tough test to open our campaign.
"They have had very positive performances against really strong opposition through their pre-season. We want to set a high standard in our first game and provide a foundation to build on so hopefully we can kick start our season with a positive result and performance.”
Tillen reflected on his side's pre-season after their Scotland tour, which included a 3-0 victory against Kilmarnock U18 at the BBSP Stadium Rugby Park.
He added: “We’ve had a good pre-season, the group showed they can compete against high quality opposition which was evident in our Scotland trip, and I hope that holds us in good stead for the season."
