Sam Tillen was delighted with the resilience shown by his team after they secured their third win in a row with a 4-2 win over Carlisle United at the Gen2 Energy Elite Performance Centre.

A brace from a trialist saw the young Imps with a two-goal cushion at half time which was negated within seconds of the second half. City hit back quickly, through a goal from the inevitable Mason Jubb before Donald Inyama scored with his first touch after returning from a spell out injured.

Tillen was pleased with the result and the attacking threat shown by his side but insists they’re capable of even more.

He said: “From a result perspective it was very pleasing, I thought there were opportunities in the game where we could’ve played better.

“However, when we did manage to find elements of quality and a bit of composure, we looked a real threat, and we scored four very good team goals.”

Tillen’s side were handed a welcome lift against Carlisle, as first-year scholars Lewy Oliver and Inyama both returned to action following lengthy injury absences.

Tillen said: “It was a real positive to have them both back, Lewy has been out for a while so it was great to have him back. Donald came on and with his first touch of the ball he scored - you can’t get a better reintroduction to football than that

“They’ve both worked really hard behind the scenes to make sure they’re fit and we can now build and get them both more game time moving forward.”
