Attacker Rob Street says it was a brilliant feeling to score City’s first goal of the 2025/26 campaign, as his strike helped the Imps on their way to a 2-0 opening day success over Reading at the LNER Stadium on Saturday.
A key hallmark of the victory was the structure of the team, with City limiting their opponents to few opportunities, something which Street felt laid the foundations for the win.
He said: “It was a brilliant feeling to score, in the first game of the season you want to get off to a good start and we’ve done that.
“We know going into every game that we want to be tough to play against and I felt like we had a really good structure and discipline about us.
“Being hard to beat is the main thing at this level and with that, I believe you can kick on and hurt teams at the top of the pitch.
“There were times we had to dig in, Reading are a good team and I think they’ll have a decent season, so it’s an excellent result for us."
Street picked up from where he’d left off from the last campaign, where he hit double figures during a loan spell in the second half of the season with League Two title winners Doncaster Rovers.
After getting off the mark with both a goal and a win, Street says the team are looking to build-on their positive beginning when they visit AFC Wimbledon next Saturday.
He added: “I’ve said already that the loan spell last season really helped me, to get goals and go and win a league.
“I came back in pre-season feeling confident and feeling sharp, so I’m really pleased to start with a goal.
“To begin with a win is great, but we want to build on it. I watched Wimbledon last night and I played against them last year, so I feel like I know what they are about.
“They are a good club and will be tough to play against, like any team in this league, we’ll be looking to build on today.”
