City head coach Michael Skubala is looking for his side to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat to Rotherham United when they take on Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers in the coming week.

The Imps head to Oakwell on Tuesday evening looking to confirm their place as group winners in the Vertu Trophy before they host Rovers at the LNER Stadium on Saturday 15 November.

He said: “We’ve got two games coming up in the next week. Tuesday will be an opportunity for some of the lads to show what they can do again and hopefully some of them will take their chance.

“Then we have a huge game against Doncaster Rovers at home. We’re looking forward to being back in front of our own fans and it is a big game for us.

“Football can change quickly. We have to do more and keep moving forward, and next week we have a big opportunity to put it right.”

Skubala reserved praise for the 1,500-strong City following, who stuck by the team despite a difficult afternoon in South Yorkshire.

He added: “I thought the fans were great and even though it was a tough afternoon for us at Rotherham, they were still trying to push the team on.

“I thought we were slow out of the blocks, which isn’t really like us. We’ve got to correct that, because that isn’t what we’re about.

“We have a good group in there, who are as disappointed as everyone else, they were trying but it just didn’t go right for us.

“This is a tough league where everyone can beat everyone, and we just need to look after ourselves and we didn’t do that against Rotherham.”
