City head coach Michael Skubala believes his side did more than enough to get at least a point from Saturday's against Exeter City and was left to rue a host of missed chances as the Imps slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the LNER Stadium.

It appeared that the game was going to end all square despite City’s dominance, but the visitors dealt them a late sucker punch with a 94th minute goal from Kevin McDonald.

Skubala said: “We should have won that game and we’d have been frustrated if we’d have drawn it.

“We shouldn’t have conceded the goal we did and it should have been a case of walking off the pitch frustrated with a point.

“We’ve had three or four big chances to win that game and it is something we have to learn from.

“They were always going to come here and play for a moment and they did that, but we need to be switched on to react to it.

“We’re gutted we’ve come off of that pitch after losing the game.”

City defender Adam Jackson felt the Imps created enough chances to win the game and was left frustrated that their efforts were not rewarded with at least point.

He said: “We did more than enough to win the game, but it just didn’t drop for us. You think about the throw-ins and set-plays that we didn’t make the most of.

“There were a couple of chances we had that we maybe should have done better with, it was one of those days.

“We battled the elements well quite well I thought and as I said, created good opportunities, it just wasn’t our day.”
