Skubala: There’s plenty to build on for next season

Michael Skubala, head coach of Lincoln City during the EFL Sky Bet League One match between Lincoln City and Wrexham at LNER Stadium, Lincoln.

Head coach Michael Skubala says there is plenty to build on after his first full season in charge of the Imps saw the club secure another top half finish in Sky Bet League One.

The Imps finished 11th in the table, giving plenty of hope ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

He said: "It's a top half finish which is successful for us, but we want to do more. We'll rest up now but we've got plenty of work to do to get ready for the starting line next season."

City fell to a 2-0 final-day defeat to promoted Wrexham, and Skubala was pleased with the way his side took the game to the high-profile visitors.

He added: "We were so good in the first half - we did everything but score. You saw a team that really wanted to take it to them.

"They turned it up in the second half and the pitch became big for their first goal, then it became a tough afternoon.

"We'd done so much work in the first half and you could see it deflated the lads but the lads kept pushing right to the end.

"There's loads of pleasing things especially from the first half - if we can put in 90 minutes of that then we're a top team."

Tendayi Darikwa took the main prize in the on-pitch presentations which followed the fixture.

He added: “I’ve really enjoyed my first season here from a personal perspective and I’m looking forward to building on that.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to the supporters, we’re really grateful to them for sticking with us throughout the season and hopefully we can do them proud next season.

“In terms of the game, we started off very well and were the dominant team in the first half, but we didn’t capitalise on our chances.

“In the second half when they got their first, I think their quality shone through, those are the levels that we want to get to if we’re going to be competing at the top end of the table next season.”
