Michael Skubala was pleased with his side’s dominant second half performance as goals from Lewis Montsma and Ben House rounded off the Imps’ pre-season with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal U21.
Skubala was pleased with the aggression City showed and their response to falling behind early in the second period to Salah Oulad M’Hand’s strike.
City’s head coach said: “I thought Arsenal were quite lively in the first half. We started okay but dropped off a little bit.
“In the second half I thought we totally dominated the game and could’ve had a few more goals. I’m really pleased with the workout, it’s always difficult to play academy teams, but what was really pleasing is that we were very aggressive, and really exciting in the second half.”
Montsma’s goal to level proceedings was a great moment for the Dutchman as he scored for the first time since overcoming his long-term injury.
Skubala continued: “With the journey he’s been through, coming back, if you wanted someone in that moment to score it was Lewis Montsma.
“The lads clapped him in the dressing room, and it was great for the fans to see it and for it not to have come behind closed doors. Hopefully now he can kick on and keep progressing.”
Skubala and his side now look ahead to next Saturday where they take on Burton Albion in the first game of the 24/25 campaign.
He added: “We all want to get back. Pre-season is great and it’s good to play some games, but the reality is it’s all about the league and cup games.
“We’re looking forward as a group to go into next week in a positive way. We’re confident that if we work hard and play like us we’ll be okay.”
