Michael Skubala hailed an amazing moment for City after his side secured promotion with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Reading, capping a season he believes will go down in the club’s history.

Skubala sprinted towards the travelling supporters at full-time - a rare show of emotion from the Imps boss - as the Imps confirmed their return to the second tier with a late Jack Moylan winner that sparked wild celebrations.

He said: “This is a big moment for the club. Big for the players, the staff - the hard work to get to this point. When you score late like that... what an amazing, amazing day.”

City had led through but were pegged back by a stunning strike from Lewis Wing. Skubala admitted his side were “disappointed” to be level, but always believed they had enough to respond.

That belief proved justified when substitute Moylan struck the decisive goal in front of the visiting supporters - a moment Skubala described as “electric”.

He added: "He’s been brilliant this season. We knew we needed fresh legs, and it shows the strength of the group. We don’t just talk about the XI - everyone plays their part. To do it in that way is unbelievable.

“We’ve talked about history all season. Understanding the club and doing something special. We knew could be the first team promoted this season - that’s history. Make it so.

“To deliver this for such an amazing club and fanbase makes me very proud - and I know the players feel the same.

"The secret to success is nothing but hard work. The staff give everything, the players give everything.

“If I was a fan watching this team, I’d be proud - not just because of the wins, but because of how they work and fight for everything.”
