Kian Sagoo believes there are positives to take from a strong performance at Lincoln United on Friday evening.

The young Imps opened their pre-season campaign with a tough test against local side Lincoln United. Kian Sagoo was City’s only goalscorer in a 2-1 defeat but he spoke highly of the team’s performance.

He said: “I think as a team performance, obviously it was our first game back on the pitch against a men’s side which was going to be a tough game either way.

“We changed the formation and I think we adapted really well to it. Going into the game our first thought was to be relentless and I think we were relentless throughout the game.”

The test of playing against a senior men’s side compared to that of academy football was a key point of focus in order to expose the squad to a higher level of physicality before the upcoming season.

Sagoo said: “It’s going to prepare us well, we have Skegness Town as well soon and as a total it is going to prepare us very well for the physical side of the game because obviously we’re all going up to the first team now and we’re trying to adapt to a first team environment with the physicality and mentality in the game.”

The central midfielder opened his scoring account for the season with a fantastic strike from range to get the young Imps back in the game.

He said: “The goal I think was taken well, I just got the ball into an area and my first thought was just to strike it.”

City will now go on tour in the Lake District in preparation for the upcoming fixture at Northampton Town U18.

Sagoo added: “On Monday we’ll go on a bit of a team building tour which will be good. We’ll get the whole squad together, the coaches, the staff and I think that’s the most important thing we need in the team right now, a bit of team building and coming together.”
