City put up a spirited performance under the lights at the Sun-Hats Villas & Resorts Stadium despite a 3-1 loss to Grimsby Town

Alex McNicholas was the sole goalscorer for the young Imps but experienced midfielder, Kian Sagoo, had a speculative effort tipped onto the crossbar and as one of the more senior player in the squad he reflected on the positive performances of those younger than him.

He said: “For the younger lads coming in it gives them great exposure, this is cup football and it gives them that experience for when they hopefully play consistently in these types of games in the seasons to come.

“With me being on of the more senior in the squad now, it’s about making sure they’re intergated into the squad and theg play the best they can.

Sagoo was also keen to highlight that City were not going to let this result affect moral after what has been such a positive start to the season which seems them top the Youth Alliance North East Division.

Sagoo said: “This is only our third loss of the season and we’ve played a lot of games up to this point which is a credit to the lads.”

He added: “Going two goals down, we gave ourselves a mountain to climb but, as we showed against Blackpool, we can climb mountains. It was a positive for Alex to get his first goal and we need to regroup ahead of an important game against Crewe.”
