City faced off against York city for the second time in four days in what was a tight league match that eventually saw the young Imps come out on top.
A brace from Leo Fifield and a goal from Kian Sagoo helped the hosts come back from behind to take away all three points to continue what has been a strong start to the season.
Sagoo spoke and said: “I thought I played well, as a team we looked very compact and when we adapted to the press, we were very aggressive. We’re a good team that can hit teams on the counter and I thought we did that very well, especially towards the end of the first half and that contributed to the goal I got.”
The midfielder’s goal came from range as it looped over the keeper and into the far corner.
Talking through it, he added: “I was looking for the back post when I’d seen Freddie shouting for it and it’s gone in, but the idea was there and if I don’t put the idea there then I don’t get the goal.”
Lincoln City had found themselves 1-0 down inside the opening five minutes of the contest but were able to find themselves holding onto a 3-2 lead in the closing 15 minutes. They found themselves under a fair bit of pressure after being faced with a defensively compact side but were able to keep hold of their lead.
Sagoo added: “Not regularly do we get a team that set up in a low block against us and hit us on the transition, we’re more of a very effective transition team, so to come up against that I think is a credit to all the lads because we don’t get that exposure a lot and I thought we dealt with it well to come back.”
“We can keep the ball, we’re a team that are very technically good so keeping the ball and not letting them get a sniff then they have to come at us, then we can play our football and I thought we did that well in the last fifteen minutes.”
The young Imps get a longer time to recover ahead of Saturday’s home fixture against Rotherham United in what will be another exciting league clash after plenty of preparation from the young Imps.
Sagoo added: “I think the preparation is obviously, we had a team sit in a low block against us today and I think we need to work on changing how to adapt to that low block because Rotherham might be a team that his us with a low block. When we played them before, they go long a lot, which we got exposure to in the last fifteen minutes from York today so we need to good at that.”
