The young Imps made the journey south to face both Luton Town and West Ham United in the closing stages of their pre-season campaign.
Both matches ended in a 2-2 draw, however, there were any positives to be taken from both as the Youth Alliance North campaign fast approaches.
Isaac Rice spoke on both performances, which saw goals from a trialist and Sam Male in the game against Luton and it was Lewy Oliver and Leo Fifield on the scoresheet against West Ham.
He said: “The players worked really hard across both matches, with the majority of them completing back-to-back 90-minute performances.”
The fixtures provided a different test for the players once again, and gradual improvement shown from previous performances was a talking point amongst the coaches.
Rice added: “Compared to previous games, we were much more composed in possession, showing greater patience and moving the ball effectively to create space and unsettle the opposition.”
The positive mindset in the dressing room is clear to be seen as the players and staff believe that performances are moving in the right direction in the final few weeks before the beginning of the season.
Rice said: “This is a positive foundation to build upon, and we will continue to develop this aspect of our play while placing an increased emphasis on being more clinical in the final third.”
City's next fixture will be their season-opener as they travel to Port Vale on Saturday 8 August starting a run of games in August where they host Preston North End as well as welcoming York City twice within a week including the tie in the first round of the Youth Alliance Cup.
