The Imps were motivated to rewrite history in Peterborough on Saturday, according to defender Adam Reach.

City recorded their first win on Posh soil for almost two decades with a superb 3-0 win at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday and it was not lost to Reach how much the result meant to the supporters.

He said: “We know how much it means to the fans to get a result here, the Gaffer made us aware at the hotel that we hadn’t won here for a while.

“As players, we have no control over what has happened before us, but we were challenged us to rewrite a little bit of history and we’ve done that.

“We have a squad full of young, exciting players and some experienced lads too. Collectively, we know exactly what we want to do.

“We dealt with a bit of a spell from them and went on to score the second and third goals, that’s what we want to do more of away from home.”

Reach’s sumptuous free kick gave City the lead at the break and they added further gloss to the scoreline through Tendayi Darikwa and Justin Obikwu in the second period.

The deadline day signing says it was a special way to get off the mark for his new club.

He added: “It has been a while for me since I scored a goal and your first one for a new club is always going to be special.

“To do it like that was an amazing feeling and it always makes it better when your goal helps the team to a win.

“Overall, I think it is a really good day for everyone at the club and we want to keep maintaining those standards.”
