Adam Reach hopes the Imps can create another memorable Carabao Cup night when they travel to AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.
City head to the Premier League side in the third round of the competition, having already overcome Derby County and Blackpool on the road.
Reach has fond memories of the competition himself, most notably from his time at Middlesbrough when he scored against Liverpool at Anfield before featuring in an extraordinary penalty shootout.
He said: “It was the first time I’d played at Anfield and the atmosphere was electric. I scored in that one and then we managed to take them to penalties.
“We went round twice and I scored both of mine, which is a memory I’ll always have.
“That’s a really nice memory from this competition and hopefully we can create some more.”
The Imps will face another significant challenge on Tuesday against a Bournemouth side competing in both the Premier League and Europe this season.
But Reach insists City will head south with the intention of progressing rather than simply enjoying the occasion.
He said: “We’re up against a really difficult side, not only competing in the Premier League but now competing in Europe as well.
“It’s going to be a good test for us to see where we’re at. We’re looking forward to it but, like every game, we want to win and progress to the next round.”
City head into the tie with confidence following their opening weeks n the Championship, with Reach encouraged by the way the Imps have competed against established second-tier opposition.
Successive draws against Blackburn Rovers and Southampton at the ProAmpac Stadium have left the squad feeling they could have taken even more from those fixtures.
Reach said: “We’ve caused teams lots of problems in every game, especially the Blackburn and Southampton ones. We got two points from those games, but there’s a little bit of disappointment that we didn’t come away with more.
“That’s a real positive in itself, to be disappointed to only draw against some really good opposition.
“We want to build on that, but we know as a group that in those periods where we are dominating games, we have to take our chances.
“We’re not here just to make up the numbers. We’re not here just to create postcards of the stadiums we visit. We’re here to compete.
“I think what we’ve shown everyone in this first period of games is that we’re more than capable of doing that.”
