Sam Tillen was pleased with the second half performance of his young side, which featured four U16s, despite their 1-0 defeat to Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

The young Imps repeatedly went close to being the ones who found the back of the net in the second period, but the hosts struck late against the run of play. Sam Tillen gave an insight into his half-time team talk which rejuvenated City after lacklustre first half from both sides.

He said: “We tried to get the boys up the pitch a bit quicker, we felt like the gap between our attackers and defenders was too big and it wasn’t allowing us to build.

“It meant we were able to regain possession far easier and also allowed us more options when we got the ball and that lead to the flurry of chances we had throughout the second half and on another day, one of those will end up in the back of the net.”

City's U18 head coach also highlighted Timi Bada who had a real positive impact on the game when he was subbed on after 55 minutes.

Tillen added: “He was really good, I thought he was a real individual positive from the performance, he managed to find the pockets of space that we asked him to and was really effective.

“He looked really bright carrying the ball and caused them a serious problem, he took his opportunity off the bench well and now looking into the coming weeks he’s put himself forward to be getting more game time.”

City U18: Taylor, Chipperfield, Don-Duncan, Huggins (Preston 61'), Tunstall (Sagoo 55'), Hutton (Blant 81'), Mande (Bada 55'), Inyama, Kennealey, Cowin, Wilson.
