City will pay tribute to former players George Peden and John Vaughan with a minute’s applause ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Burnley at the ProAmpac Stadium.
It will provide an opportunity for supporters to come together and remember both former Imps, who made valued contributions to the club during their playing careers.
City players previously wore black armbands in memory of George during the fixture at Sheffield United, with the minute’s applause arranged for the Burnley game on Saturday 24 October to allow members of his family to attend and join supporters in celebrating his life.
George, who passed away at the age of 83, joined City from Scottish side Heart of Midlothian in May 1967 and spent seven seasons in Lincolnshire, making more than 250 appearances in all competitions.
A popular and uncompromising left-back, he scored 19 goals and was named the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Year for the 1972/73 season. One of his most memorable moments came in September 1967 when he scored the winning penalty in a famous League Cup victory over First Division Newcastle United.
George left the Imps in 1974, going on to represent Worksop Town, Lincoln United and Skegness Town before returning to Scotland.
The minute’s applause will also honour former goalkeeper John, who represented the Imps during the 1990s. After retiring from playing in 2000, Vaughan went into coaching and subsequently became a goalkeeper coach - and was working for Sheffield United's Academy until his recent passing.
The thoughts of everyone at Lincoln City are with the families and friends of George and John at this difficult time.
