Mikkel Ladefoged was thrilled to open his City account after his first goal for the Imps earned a point against Southampton.
The forward made an impact from the bench for the second successive game, heading home Reeco Hackett’s cross to level the score in the 1-1 draw at the ProAmpac Stadium.
He said: “It was a nice game against good opponents. I think we showed great character out there.
“Of course, they scored a wonderful goal - it was a good hit - but I think the way we handled the game after we went behind showed great character.
“It’s a big team and we knew that. I think we put in a good performance and we put them under pressure towards the end as well.
“I’m happy with the one point, but of course three would have been better.”
Ladefoged’s goal came courtesy of an excellent delivery from Hackett, with the striker revealing the pair had spoken about attacking the back post before the opportunity arrived.
He added: I said to him, 'You make the job easy for me!', It was a really good cross.
“We’d spoken about it. I said to him, ‘Try to hit the back post, I’ll be there,’ and it worked out well.”
The striker is continuing to build his familiarity with English football following his move from Västerås SK, having also made an encouraging appearance from the bench against Blackburn Rovers. And Ladefoged is enjoying the challenge presented by the Championship.
He said: “It’s a tough league. The teams are good and the quality is good. I can feel that.
“But it’s a cool experience for me and I keep developing in training as well. For me, it’s just about keeping going. I like the Championship.
“I’m glad that it all worked out well and I’m here. I just want to play even more and help the team achieve even more.”
Ladefoged has already received a warm welcome from the City faithful, and admitted hearing the reaction of the home crowd when he is preparing to enter the action has made an impression on him.
He added: “It gives me a little bit of goosebumps.
“When I hear my name called by the coaches and then I can hear the crowd thinking, ‘Okay, now he’s coming’. That’s nice.
“They help me a lot as well. They’re our 12th man.”
