Conor McGrandles expressed his gratitude after being named Players’ Player of the Season by his teammates at Lincoln City’s End of Season Awards, sponsored by DoughGirl.

The midfielder has been a cornerstone of the Imps’ Sky Bet League One title-winning campaign, missing just one of 45 matches ahead of this weekend’s clash with Port Vale.

Now in his third spell at the club and approaching 200 appearances in red and white, McGrandles’ consistency and leadership have been instrumental throughout a historic season.

Speaking after collecting his award, he said: “It means everything, as this is the one that everyone wants to win. To get the respect of your teammates is massive - I’m incredibly grateful to win the award.

“I probably didn’t think it would go as well as this. From top to bottom it’s an amazing club and I’m grateful to play for an amazing set of staff and teammates and an incredible set of fans. It’s the perfect club for me at the moment.”

The 30-year-old also reflected on what he believes has been the finest campaign of his career, crediting both experience and the environment created by head coach Michael Skubala and the coaching staff.

He added: “I think it’s been the best season of my career. I’m a bit older now than when I was first here, so that experience has definitely helped me understand how to play the position a bit better - that’s credit to the staff and the players to help me thrive and play my best football.

“I think anything the staff ask us to do, we trust them 100% that it is going to work, and that has showed throughout the season. The trust they’ve got in us and we’ve got in them is the perfect blend.”
