Off the back of a good point on the road in the capital, City return home to the ProAmpac Stadium as they get to welcome Burnley on Saturday 24 October (3pm KO).

Read all the key stats and information as well as the thoughts of head coach, Tom Shaw and Imps defender, Adam Reach.

Opposition Information

Nicky Hayen’s side have eight points leaving them two spots off the bottom with Derby and Preston North End both accumulating less points so far. They returned from the international break  travelling to Vicarage Road to face Watford, it ended 4-0 with the first three goals coming in the opening 25 minutes.

As is often the case when sides are relegated from the topflight, there has been a large amount of change over the summer for Burnley. One of those newest additions is the Japanese national, Reo Hatate who has started the season in good form, featuring in seven of the Clarets opening games and from the heart of midfield he has managed to get himself on the scoresheet once and also provided two of his teammates with goals. That tally includes a goal and assist in the aforementioned win over the Hornets.

One of the regulars in the Burnley squad who isn’t a fresh face is their current top goalscorer, Zeki Amdouni who has already amassed a tally of three goals along with an assist. He featured in his side’s opening nine games scoring goals against Derby, Wrexham and Watford before picking up a slight injury that has kept him out of the lineup in their two most recent games. He also had a busy international break with a callup from Switzerland, a successful time with his national team which saw him get two goals and an assist against North Macedonia and scoring Scotland.

Tom Shaw said: “It’s an opportunity for us but we certainly can’t take Burnley lightly, they’ve got Premier League winners in their 11 from the last game and they’ve got an incredible squad of players when you see it written down.”

Home atmosphere

Despite not picking up a win at home, City have largely put in great performances for large parts of the games at the ProAmpac Stadium and the fans have also been brilliant and Tom Shaw recognised that.

He said: “We’ll take our learnings from our home experiences so far, the supporters were immense at the end of the West Ham game despite the result.

“We know if we put the right type of performance in then the fans are going to be incredible and it’s going to be a very intimidating atmosphere for Burnley to come and play in.”

Adam Reach’s Thoughts

Adam Reach played a key role in City’s promotion to the Sky Bet Championship during the last campaign and he’s carried that over into the new one, including scoring the club’s first goal in the second tier in 65 years when netting against Middlesbrough. He’s just put pen to paper on a new deal which sees him contracted to the club until the summer of 2028. He spoke about the new contract as well as looking ahead to Saturday’s clash with the Clarets.

Reach said: “It's always nice to sign a new contract but at this stage of my career, having that stability is invaluable and it allows me to fully concentrate on just helping the team and hopefully have another really successful season.

“I think we’ve been really good at home in spells and we’re just looking for that game where we take those chances we’re creating. This week we’ve worked really hard and looked in depth at Burnley as an opposition and hopefully they prove fruitful and we can make the most of this opportunity.”

H2H

The most recent meeting between these two sides was that famous day at Turf Moor in 2017 but to find the most recent game played between these two sides in Lincolnshire you have to go back to 1999 where the two teams played out a 1-1 draw. On the scoresheet for the away side was Brian Reid who scored the equaliser after Gavin Gordon put the Imps in front after half an hour. That was one of 29 goals scored by Gordon in his spell at City which lasted between 1997 and 2000.

Another occasion where the Clarets made the journey to Lincolnshire was in 1991, this time they left empty handed with the Imps emerging as 1-0 victors. The goalscorer for City was Tony Lormer, the man who ended the 1990/91 campaign as his side’s top goalscorer where he netted 13 times, his spell at the club lasted 100 games where he added 17 more to his total from his first season before in 1994, he left for Halifax Town on a loan deal before making the permanent move to Peterborough United.
