A Lincoln City XI travel to non-league side Gainsborough Trinity on Wednesday 23 July (7.30pm KO).
A City XI side previously travelled to cross-city neighbours Lincoln United and came back from 2-0 down to pull the game level.
Sam Tillen’s thoughts:
“Pre-season has been really good for us so far, we’ve been able to get lots of tactical messages into the players and most importantly get minutes into them ahead of our season starting in August.
“Since Lincoln United, the U18 group have had games against Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley. The players have really benefited from these two outings and we’re hoping that Wednesday evening will be another step-up in our preparations.
“Gainsborough will be a very tough test and provide more valuable experience, especially for our new scholars. They’re a very good side who had a strong campaign last time out. We know they will be very well coached and their defeat of Scunthorpe at the weekend emphasises the level of opponent we are encountering. The players will need to be prepared for a challenging evening under the lights.”
Opposition information:
Gainsborough reached the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in 72 years, beating Boston Town in a qualifying round before a victory against AFC Telford in the first round proper before the journey ended with a defeat to Harrogate Town.
Russ Wilcox’s side finished just 5 points below the playoff places with a seventh place finish which was a one-place improvement on their 2023/24 campaign.
